Sending them off with a Prayer

In this day and age I cannot imagine sending my kids to school without a prayer. I am so thankful for our morning family prayers to start the day off on a good foundation. Unfortunately we say it together at different times because of Matthew's early morning seminary schedule. I luck out though because I get two prayers, one with Matthew and then one with Zack. Now mind you many of these prayers have been said in the car on the way to school, probably not the most appropriate way. But when we are in a hurry, I would rather say it in the car than not say it at all. These moments are priceless to me and they also give me comfort that my boys will be watched over. Not only that they will be kept safe but also that they can withstand the temptations around them. It makes me sick to think what they are bombarded with on a daily basis; the smut, the language, the crudeness. It breaks my heart:( Many times I think, "why do I send them out into this cruel world?" I want to keep them young and naive. But we cannot shield them from everything and it kills me as a mother, who wants to keep them under my wings.

Many times after sending them off to school with a prayer I find somedays that I feel like they need extra prayers said on their behalf and I find myself praying continuously throughout the day. Those are the days that I am so happy when I pick them up from school and find them doing well. Maybe I am just a worry wart but I am so thankful for the comforting power of prayer and the strength it can give us and our youth in these latter (scary) days.

I'm so with you on this! I won't send Robert to school without a prayer either. Even at the tender age of six, he gets bombarded with bad words and the like too. --Scary times indeed!

Pam.. you are super Mom. You are such an awesome example for all of us newbie mom's. I need to be better about saying my morning prayers... that way I to can be an example to Evey.

You're the coolest, Pam! I've had many experiences as a teenager where my mom had been inspired to pray for me and I needed it. Sometimes she would ask me about why she felt she needed to pray and I would lie to her b/c I thought I would get in trouble, making her think she was a nut, but I couldn't be more grateful that she was in tune and sending me the strength I needed. I have the biggest testimony that, as mothers, we are open to inspiration for our children that no one else is. What a fantastic and scary role!!

No. It's your turn. I can be a good friend but that is the one thing I will not do for a friend. I will be there to support you though. You will do awesome!

We are in the midst of scary times. It scares me to think I am bringing such little innocent angels to earth at this time. They deserve so much better. I have heard people say this is why they don't want kids. Ours will be a beacon of light in dark times!
