Driving Me Crazy!

Many years ago, maybe even last year, I remember saying that I could not wait 'till Matthew could drive! I thought how nice it will be not to be his chaffeur everywhere and I could also use him to run to the store for me and such. Well now I think differently...I really can wait!

Matthew got his driver's learning permit today, he finished his driver course and passed the test at the DMV. He needs to only have one session with his driver training and then he can start driving with us in the car. Yikes!! I have got to admit, it scares me to death! To be in the car with him driving, having no control whatsoever, our lives will be in his hands! OK...that might seem a little dramatic but come on! That is scary! It is not that I don't trust Matthew, he is a responsible kid. But he is a teenager, a teenage boy! With no driving experience at all! I hope we can survive these next 6 months. If he is anything like I was at his age, he will be asking me all the time if he can drive. I would like to say that it will be Adam's responsibility but who are we fooling..I am the one home with him all the time. It will be me in that passenger seat, white as a ghost, one hand gripping the door and the other hand on the emergency brake! Pray for me and better yet, pray for the neighborhood children!

Wow Matthew is driving! I remember when before Rob and I got married and we came down and he sat Zack and Matthew on his lap and let them drive and now he is doing it himself. Scary how fast time goes by. Next thing I know it will be Mackay because he is about the same age that Matthew was when we came down that time.

Oh it won't be that bad. I've been through it twice now and it's not so bad. Julia was much more scary than Jamie so maybe personality has something to do with it. Just don't get worked up before he starts the car. A lot of times they are just as scared as you, they just don't want you to know it. Have fun!!

Pam, here is my best advice: make Adam take him out for a long driving lesson once he gets the permit. I didn't get in the car with Sam until Steve assured me I wasn't putting my life on the line. It was a little scary, but they really do get better and then you get to enjoy all the perks. Congratulations to Matthew. We've got Ben getting ready for a permit next month.

The best time/place to drive is early morning seminary. There aren't very many cars on the road so it's not quite as scary.

Oh seriously I think I would be just as dramatic and traumatized as you are right now, LOL! I know I will go through that later down the road and it freaks me out that someone could hit her. Ok, so anyway, congrats to Matthew, he is growing up so fast! :)

Ha, ha. That was cute & fun to read. I'm so glad I have a year before my oldest is 16 ... but it's closing in fast.
